Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / Inter / Eighteen media outlets pinned for coverage of the terrorist attack in Burkina Faso
Eighteen Burkinabè media have been singled out for failing to cover the worst terrorist attack, which killed more than 130 in the north of the country on Friday, reports the News Agency of Burkina Faso (AIB) .
Nine audiovisual media and nine print and online media have been pinned following their coverage of the terrorist attack in Solhan (northern Burkina Faso), said Wednesday June 09, 2021 the president of the Superior Council of Communication (CSC) from Burkina Faso, Mathias Tankaono .
According to the president of the CSP of Burkina Faso, a few hours after the attack which recorded more than 130 dead including women and children, the media announced the execution of passengers of a minibus in another attack which took place. proved false as well as the looting and burning of property by terrorists the following night in Solhan, and the presence of armed men in Dambam (northern Burkina Faso). Information also denied by the Burkinabè army.
For him, these faults range from the failure to first check the sources of information to the publication of false news. “Such information can have multiple consequences: psychosis within populations, the risk of misleading the troops at the front, anger, incitement to revolt and social implosion”, explained Mathias Tankoano.
According to him, other shortcomings such as infringement of image rights and the dissemination of shocking images were also noted.
For the president of the CSC, these media which should “bring encouragement to the Defense and Security Forces and to the civilian population, have trampled on social responsibilities through publications made in defiance of the sacrosanct rules of professional ethics”.
