Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / Covid 19: State of health emergency extended until September 30

The National Security Council decided, Thursday July 1, 2021, in Abidjan, to extend the state of health emergency until September 30, 2021 in view of the rainy season and the holiday period which will see a significant number of movements of people, in a global context characterized by the appearance of several variants of COVID-19.

The National Security Council however welcomed the positive developments in the fight against COVID-19 on the basis of the point made by the Minister of Health, Public Hygiene and Health Coverage on the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic in Côte d’Ivoire.

As of Wednesday, June 30, 2021, Côte d’Ivoire had 48,305 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 47,834 cured, 313 deaths and 158 active cases.

The positivity rate, which is below 3%, remains one of the lowest in Africa. In addition, the average number of new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the country has been steadily declining since April, reflecting good control of the epidemic.

The average number of cases per day fell from 72 in April to 40 in May and 33 in June 2021. Likewise, the number of deaths is declining with 42 deaths recorded in April, 19 in May and 8 in June 2021.

The Minister of Health also informed the CNS that since the start of the vaccination campaign against COVID-19, 757,123 doses of vaccines have been administered, as of June 29, 2021, with 76,603 people having received both doses.

He informed the CNS that Côte d’Ivoire received, on June 16, 2021, 100,620 doses of the Pfizer vaccine as part of the COVAX initiative, on June 26, 2021, a donation from China of 100,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine and on June 28 , 2021, 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Mali.

Finally, Côte d’Ivoire placed, on June 9, 2021, an order for 1,000,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which will be delivered in July 2021.

The National Security Council, while expressing its satisfaction with these very encouraging results, calls on the populations to be vigilant and urges them to respect the barrier measures.

The President of the Republic, for his part, reiterated his congratulations to all the actors involved in the fight against COVID-19. He urged, once again, the populations living in Côte d’Ivoire to be vaccinated and tested, while continuing to scrupulously respect the barrier measures.
