The director of cabinet of the Ministry of Women, Family and Children, Prof. Assane Thiam, launched on Thursday June 10, 2021 in Abidjan, a call for a synergy of actions support structures for the eradication of gender-based violence (GBV), early marriages and female genital mutilation through “zero tolerance” towards its perpetrators.

In 2019, the care structures had documented 3,154 GBV, not counting the unregistered cases. With the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, these figures climbed in 2020 to 5,181 cases treated including 803 rapes, 150 sexual assaults, 13 female genital mutilation, 1,240 physical abuse, 93 forced marriages, 2010 denial of resources.
The national coordination workshop therefore aimed to strengthen the collaborative framework of multisectoral partners (health, justice, security, psychosocial) through the presentation of the 2020 report on the situation of sexual violence, the sharing of good practices between regional offices of the MFFE. and the contribution of NGOs to the fight.
For the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), technical and financial partner of the ministry in this fight, the coordination of control actions, capacity building of platforms and their coverage of the entire territory, up to in the most remote hamlets are necessary.
Along with the other agencies of the United Nations system and partners, UNFPA will continue to contribute to the support of Côte d’Ivoire to end gender-based violence, ”promised the deputy representative of the UN agency, Akpadji Alain.
