Police have arrested two suspects in Bomet, believed to be behind the jeering and disruptions that occurred during President William Ruto’s visit to the County last Saturday.
This follows a directive by Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS), Kithure Kindiki, Monday, to investigate the sponsors of the political chaos witnessed during the President’s tour of the region.
The directive has caused steer and mixed feelings among politicians from the region.
Bomet County Commissioner (CC), Dr Ahmed Omar, says the two suspects are currently in police custody and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend other individuals involved in the disturbances.
‘Some of the prominent politicians involved in planning and funding the chaos witnessed during the President’s tour will be summoned to record statements. They should know that no one is above the law,’ stated Dr Omar, flanked by the County Security Team.
However, Dr Omar stated that the number of suspects sought, has not been disclosed yet and investigators would have
them to record statements and those culpable be apprehended to face the law.
Two factions of youths supporting two top leaders from the County engaged in stone-throwing in the town’s Central business hub, shortly before the President’s arrival.
The fight lasted for over one hour with security officers having a hard time separating the rowdy crowds who disrupted traffic flow on the busy Kisii-Bomet-Nairobi Highway.
President Ruto had expressed his dismay at the disruption of his meetings in Bomet and warned any leader using youths to gain their political mileage that such won’t be allowed.
